Historically, fleet transactions have been cumbersome, often tied to traditional physical cards which present data limitations. With the newly implemented tokenization process, token payment data can now be transmitted seamlessly to points of sale (POS), greatly enhancing operational efficiency for drivers at fuel terminals. This update has the potential to transform a fleet spend market estimated at $1.4 trillion, which encompasses vehicle-related expenses for corporations, small businesses, and the public sector.
"Visa’s tokenization capabilities, now available for Google Pay, solve this pain point by quickly enabling spend through digital credential push-to-wallet, card-on-file merchants, and Click to Pay," Patton added. The timeline for provisioning digital wallets has also drastically reduced—from 7 to 14 days for physical cards to mere hours with the new digital integration.

Adopting this technology means that approximately 92% of smartphones globally can now access Visa Fleet Tokenization, significantly broadening the reach of this innovative payment method. This integration follows Visa's earlier support for Apple Pay, enhancing its commitment to providing flexible payment solutions suitable for today's digital-first economy.
